I co-directed this film with animation director Sarah Cheok. We hope to create a fun, comedic animated short film that will break down prejudices around female self-pleasure. We also hope to spark conversations around sex-positivity.
In 2020, I pitched this film in Animation Visions: Story Development Lab organised by SCAPE and Cartoons Underground. The project won the Best Pitch award. Through the Lab, I met Sarah and producer Jerrold Chong.
I wrote this short film after experiencing a mishap with a vibrator. A few years ago, a university friend gave me a vibrator. I used it day in day out until it broke down one month later. Embarrassed, I couldn't share this story even with my closest friends. I was afraid of being judged as sexually promiscuous.
Two years later, I finally found the courage to share the story with an audience of 30 people in a real-story showcase in the Haque Centre of Acting and Creativity (HCAC), Singapore.
The story made the audience laugh very hard, especially the women. After the show, some women approached me relating their own stories with their (secret) vibrator. This made me realise of the story’s wide appeal to women.
Through the medium of animation, we will tell the story through metaphors, exaggerations, and surrealist humour.
