Sumba, Indonesia - a Travel Photography series

Located in the West Nusa Tenggara region, Sumba island is only one hour's flight from Bali. The Indonesian martial arts film "Golden Cane Warrior (Pendekar Tongkat Mas)" inspired me and my Mom to visit Sumba Island in Indonesia.

Known for its savanna fields (e.g. Puru Kambera savanna), the island is also famous for its beautiful, rugged beaches and their deep blue waters.

When visiting the villages around the island, you'd notice distinctive high-peaked traditional houses co-existing with megalithic tombs. The Sumbanese society embraces the animist Marapu religion and believes in the world of spirits.

This was one destination that my Mom and I had visited as part of our Indonesian Adventures. As Indonesians, both of us felt guilty for not exploring enough of our home country, so we vowed each other to travel around more of our country, together.
